Color,color, what color?

Image

Color, one of the most important elements in design. It can impact any part of a room, walls, floor, the in betweens' & a most commonly ignored surface, the ceiling. Fortunately, it is easily accessible, easy to change, easy to compliment, easy to find on many platforms of decor, and truly is an easy mood changer.

The choice of color is tricky. Number 1 rule: just because a color looks nice may not be the right reason to choose one. Knowing how you would like the space to feel gives a better headstart in shortlisting the choice of colors. Sometimes we are lucky & we can start with a blank canvas. Other times we are not so lucky, as things are not in our control. It probably calls for a situation where the color needs to be catered to some  unchangeable elements, like an existing structural feature , amount of light in a room , the hand me down that holds sentimental value, the reasons are many.Interestingly some of these challenges bring out a surprise color choice that would not have been made otherwise. This to me is the serendipitous moment which should be the aha moment! Whatever the reason, the ideal way to make a color choice in such scenarios is to start with the unchangeable element & work yourself on how best to compliment it. It will all come together.

Saturation, tones, shade, hue, reflective factors are some technicalities that matter when it comes to choosing a color. A color that can look dark in one environment can be lovely in another. Why is that? Is it the amount of sunlight that comes through a room or is it what it's being paired with? Is it a monotone that the space actually calls for? Or is  the space going to do better with a contrast ? Does the space need a deep dark saturated color that will brighten the space or a bright light filled color that would do the trick?

Are these too many questions, one might think ? But I believe the right questions will lead you to the right answer. So do not be afraid to ask these questions. They just lay the path toward the right outcome. THIS is the world of color.

Puts you on a nervous start?

Don't be afraid of color, they say. I say be a little. Just a tad bit. It kind of molds the choice/s to work in favor of a successful outcome. Feel a little hesitant about the choice made? Take a second opinion, sleep on it, take your time. See it change through daylight & night time, see it with lights turned on & turned off, examine how it works with the decor, how it makes you feel.

The choice will be easier.

All in all color can make it or break it. Feel confident. Listen to your instinct and go for it. If you need help, You are welcome to our studio. Happy Coloring!
