Aparna is one of a kind! Professionally, she is very intuitive regarding her craft and in touch with the customer. She is prompt (always) and has great interpersonal skills when interacting with trades people which is so important on big projects. I can attest to one custom cabinet maker who commented to me that Aparna knows exactly what she is doing which made his job easier when working with her. During the lengthy project we worked on, I was impressed with her ability to work with everyone from the builder to the cabinet maker to the tile guy and everyone in between. When Aparna came to my private residence, she did not want me to pull out photos from magazines, she wanted to get my "vibe", what my home was like and what makes me feel comfortable. We talked. We walked. Aparna listened and keenly observed. After, the tour of my home, Aparna commented on one photo in the home she wanted to use as inspiration. The photo had nothing to do with home design, but everything to do with my attachment to the natural world. It became her inspiration and because I had taken the photo, it was a reflection of me and so too would become the home renovation. Using the grays and earthiness from the photo, Aparna envisioned and designed a master bathroom and bedroom which reflects the natural world, "I want to have the home be an extension of nature outside" she said ...and we were off to a great start. The master bedroom and bath have become my refuge. The tile in the bathroom is reminiscent of the bark on a birch tree. Aparna's ability to mix texture and color have created a serenity I am drawn to daily. That was just the beginning...we continued working together on a kitchen remodel with genius use of space (a seating area under a focal window which was a brilliant means to cover a baseboard heating with artistic grated front to allow warmth to the kitchen), (cabinet design which was featured everything on my list: open shelving, places for cookbooks, pull out spice racks, places to hide small appliances)...I could go on. Lest I omit the countertop materials which is a representation of the frozen pond in the wetland out the window. Yes, nature has found itself indoors. I wanted the kitchen to be a gathering place and it has become the most lived-in area of our home. Over the many months we worked together, I eagerly anticipated her arrival at the doorstep. With new ideas in hand, Aparna would arrive on the doorstep with 3-D computer renderings and an inspiration board of paint, tile, wood. Preparedness at every step of the project left nothing to question. Additionally, Aparna solved the "choppiness" of the home which when presented to her had different molding, different stain, different materials in every room. Aparna's ability to see the home in its entirety resulted in a cohesive approach in use of materials and a result of a home that flows from room to room. I have never been disappointed by Aparna and to the contrary, continue to be surprised by her ingenuity. If you are looking for guidance on a small or large project, I highly recommend Aparna. I do not write reviews frequently but when you find a talented designer, she should be promoted. Five star, class act for sure!
